Sweden is full of priceless cultural treasures; buildings, interiors, parks, gardens and artworks. It is an important part of our common cultural heritage that must be preserved with care, knowledge and respect for the craftsmanship involved.
Our ambition is to act as a support and a knowledge bank for those who are responsible for or practically engaged in the upkeep of our national treasures. Our aim is to be a bridge between the University and heritage institutions.
For example, we can contribute expert support when sensitive renovation work has to be contracted. We provide further education for craftspeople, with the focus on cultural crafts. We document unusual craft techniques and special types of renovation work. And we make knowledge available in the Crafts Library in Mariestad.
When craftsmanship, research and education meet, traditional knowledge is developed at the same time as new knowledge emerges. On the following pages we say a bit more about how it works.
